Pharmacy Technician

Due to the continued national shortage in pharmacists, and the increasing number of our population taking medications, there is greater demand than ever for qualified pharmacy technicians. The U.S. Department of Labor indicates, “Employment for pharmacy technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014.”

According to the American Medical Association, the average starting annual salary for a pharmacy technician is $19,000.00. The Monster Salary Center lists the average pharmacy technician’s salary in the Little Rock area at over $23,000 annually. Pharmacy technicians are in demand for both full and part time positions, making this career a flexible choice.

In this two year, hands-on educational experience, the participant will prepare to succeed on the PTCB, the Pharmacy Technician’s Certification Exam, and receive the distinguishing national certification, creating valuable opportunities with employers across the country. With basic and intermediate level competencies developed within a well-rounded curriculum, this certification will give the graduate a definitive edge when entering the highly competitive field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical distribution.

The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician Science program is to enable graduates to obtain basic and intermediate level competencies to obtain employment in either direct patient care or retail pharmacy settings. Pharmacy technicians assist licensed pharmacists in providing medication and other healthcare products to patients.
